We are camping tonight by lake Yellowstone, in Yellowstone national park, after the most amazing day yet of our drive. We saw geysers, a herd of bison, mule deer, a large bull elk, and pronghorn antelope, as well as some terrific mountain scenery.
We arrived in Yellowstone via the west entrance around 1:00 pm. We headed south on the main driving loop toward Old Faithful. The park was crowded and we were worried that all the campgrounds would be full, but luck was with us and we got the last campsite at the lake campground (the next one wouldn’t have been for another thirty miles or so).
The animals are handling the journey well. Kiki is sitting by my head purring. I won’t go so far as to say she is enjoying the trip, but she is doing way better than she did on our trip west five years ago. She doesn’t seem to fully appreciate the fact that she is one of only a handful of domestic felines to visit the park, but she likes the air mattress well enough.
Dustin cooked us a delicious dinner over the campfire, and there is a full moon over the lake. Tomorrow we plan to continue north to the canyon and out the north east entrance.
