Coat to Wear the Rain – Project Map

I created this project map of my recent Coat to Wear the Rain project. My goal was to show the material, geographic, and thought processes that went into creating the final product. The result was another garment in which three maps come together on the body.

I thought about the body as having axes, like a traditional map. The horizontal axis, represented by the arms, shows the material process of creating the garment. The process starts on the right arm with the patterning of the garment. It moves through the center of the body where I made a muslin mock-up, and continues onto the left arm which shows the final production stages.

The vertical axis, represented by the spine, shows my daily commute from home to school. My commute is an important time for me to reflect and refine my ideas. ZOImap_1

The final axis passes through the body. This map shows the thought process and influences that went into creating the piece.ZOImap_4ZOImap_2
